 Welcome
to Lechner Chiropractic's first edition of Healthy
News. We are very excited to share our first of
many monthly editions with you. Healthy News will
have valuable information on the benefits of
chiropractic, exercise and nutrition. There will
also be various articles featuring, the "Not So
Good Recipes" to the "Good For You Recipes", and
fun facts on a host of topics and information on
specific conditions such as low back pain,
scoliosis, osteoporosis and many others. These
topics are for you to enjoy and learn how to
improve your quality of life through
chiropractic. My name is Anthony
Lechner, D.C. and I have been a resident
of Corona since 1979. I opened my office in Corona
in 2002. I specialize in both spine and sports
related injuries. My background in chiropractic,
automobile accidents and sports injury gives me a
unique insight into many problems. My practice
primary focus is on delivering highly effective
and gentle chiropractic care to people of all
ages. I have been married for 23 years to Seema
and have two children Mason 17 and Makena
4. Lechner Chiropractic emphasizes the
three phases of care, relief care, corrective care
and wellness care. Relief care is the beginning of
care to reduce swelling and pain. Once the pain is
controlled we begin corrective care to strengthen
and stabilize the areas of the pain source.
Wellness care is implemented to prevent the
reoccurrence of your previous conditions and to
correct new conditions before symptoms
appear. When you visit Lechner
Chiropractic, you can expect a family atmosphere
with a very enthusiastic, friendly and courteous
staff. We care for all types of injuries such as
work injuries, personal injuries (automobile
accidents, slip and falls) and accept most
insurance including Medi-care and Kaiser. We have
licensed massage therapists along with licensed
acupuncturists in our office.
We look forward to seeing you
soon!

Condition Of The
Month:
SCOLIOSIS
Scoliosis is defined
as a lateral curvature of the spine. Scoliosis affects
boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 18. It is more
common with girls. There are several causes of
scoliosis; the two most common are congenital and
idiopathic. Congenital scoliosis occurs when someone is
born with a lateral curvature of the spine. Idiopathic
(or unknown cause) is the most common type of scoliosis.
For example carrying a backpack improperly can
contribute to a spinal distortion, poor sitting habits
and practicing poor posture can also affect spinal
development in children. Signs of scoliosis are a high
hip (uneven hips), a high shoulder, the head being off
center, head tilt and/or back and leg
pain. SYMPTOMS: · THE SPINE CURVING
ABNORMALLY TO THE SIDE (LATERALLY) · SHOULDERS AND/OR
HIPS APPEARING UNEVEN · BACKACHE · LOW BACK

NUTRITION:
Fun Facts About
Sugar
How much sugar do you think each
person eats in a year? A lot! Each person the U.S.
consumes about 70 pounds of sugar a year. An individual
from Europe, about 92 pounds. Brazil had the highest
consumption per person at 123 lbs for this last
year! Pros/Cons: Sugar might make foods taste better
and give that temporary "sugar high" which makes one
feel pretty good. However, increased sugar consumption
is associated with obesity, diabetes, and cavities, not
to mention crashing after your "sugar high." Some people
argue that sugar affects the brain like a drug and can
be addictive to certain individuals. Also, sugar has no
nutritional value whatsoever. How much do you eat? Do
you know how much refined sugar you eat in a typical
day? To put it in perspective, let's take a look at some
foods/drinks and their sugar content.
g = Grams; 14 Grams = 1
Tablespoon
· Peanut Butter, 2 Tbsp = 2.5g ·
Ketchup, 1 Tbsp = 3.1g · Graham Crackers, 2 = 7g ·
Honey Nut Cheerios, ¾ Cup = 9g · Krispy Kreme
Original Glazed doughnut = 10g · Fruit Loops, 1 Cup =
14g · Hershey Kisses, 9 kisses = 21g · Starbucks
Nonfat Café Mocha, Tall = 25g · Reese Peanut Butter
Cups, 1 package = 25g · Ben And Jerry's Chunky Monkey
ice cream, ½ Cup = 28g · M&Ms, 1 package =
31g · Slim Fast, Milk Chocolate, 1 can = 34g (and
people drink this to lose weight!!!) · Dr Pepper, 12
fl oz = 40g · Mountain Dew, 12fl oz =
46g Tips:
In the days to come, see
how you can decrease your sugar intake. You might feel
all the better for it too! If you're craving something
sweet, try fresh fruit, which has nutrients, fiber, and
fewer calories. Source: www.illovo.co.za/worldofsugar/internationalsugarstats |
RELAXATION
TIPS By Melissa Pomerleau-Massage
Therapist
Meditation can help you relax and make
your brain work more efficiently.
Sitting in a
meditation session can be challenging. You might feel
anxious to get back to your busy day, your mind may
start to wander or your foot may fall asleep.
Consider this: A regular meditation practice can
make your brain work better.
Sit comfortably in
an upright but relaxed position. Close your eyes and
bring your attention to your nostrils. As you breathe,
notice the subtle sensation of cool air passing into
your nose, and warm air passing out of your nose.
Without manipulating the breath, simply notice the
sensation. Maintain your attention to every breath.
Staying relaxed and mentally alert, become curious about
each passing one as if it were your first.
If
your attention wanders, simply notice the distraction
and patiently return to sensation of the breath. Your
ability to stay present deepens by consistently
returning to the current moment. Do this exercise 10
minutes once or twice a day, gradually extending your
session to 20 to 30 minutes each.

RECIPES:
Caution "Not So Healthy
Recipe!"
We all know the
benefits of consuming fruits, vegetables and whole
grains and trying to avoid processed foods. The problem
is the foods that are bad for you taste so good! So, I
decided that each month I would provide you with a "Not
So Healthy Recipe!" Remember moderation is the key to
all your eating habits.
Pressed Cuban-Style
Burger 1 pound ground chuck Salt and freshly
ground black pepper 1/2 cup best quality
mayonnaise 3 cloves roasted garlic, pureed 1/4 cup
Dijon mustard 4 hamburger buns 4 slices thinly
sliced smoked ham 8 slices thinly sliced Swiss
cheese 2 dill pickles, sliced into 1/4-inch thick
slices
Form the meat into 4 (1/4-inch thick)
burgers. Season the meat with salt and pepper on both
sides and cook in a sauté pan over high heat to medium
doneness, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Combine the
mayonnaise and roasted garlic in a small bowl and season
with salt and pepper, to taste. Spread both sides of
each bun with mayonnaise and mustard. Place a slice of
cheese on the bottom portion of each bun, place the
burger on top of the cheese, then top the burger with a
slice of ham then another slice of cheese then the
pickle slices. Place the tops of the bun over the
pickles and cook on a sandwich press or wrap the burgers
in aluminum foil and cook in a hot skillet over high
heat with a heavy skillet placed on top of the burger to
press the sandwich for 1 to 3 minutes. Cook until golden
brown and cheese has melted. Works great on the Bar-B-Q.
You can also use bricks, rocks or anything heavy to
press the burger. Our vegetarian friends can
substitute the meat for any assortment of sautéed
vegetables.

Cuban-Style Burger" July 19 2007 Recipe from a Food
