I
have been asked many times over the years, "What
is chiropractic?" The usual response is "we work
on your spine and help control your back or neck
pain." Chiropractic is much more than that.
Chiropractic is quality of life, by keeping the
neurology of the body flowing without
interruptions.
An individual can go
about doing what they love to do without pain or
discomfort caused by daily activities. I like to
think of chiropractic as
neurology-effects-biology-effects-health. What
does this mean? First, the body depends on the
nervous system to be healthy.
The nervous system is the
foundation to all your functions whether its
muscle contraction or physiological function of
your organs. For the nervous system to do its job,
the spine must be in its optimum position and each
vertebra must move freely. Your spine is made of a
series of movable joints, when these joints
misalign from everyday stresses, repetitive
movement or postural musculature imbalances this
produces tension, irritation and inflammation onto
the nerves that exit the spine. As a chiropractor,
I help to get your spine were it should be and to
move how its suppose to. When we have
misalignments in the spine we move these areas by
manipulating or adjusting the spine. I also
recommend exercise to help reduce the unequal
stresses on the spine and nutrition to help with
the healing process.
At Lechner Chiropractic
we have a fun and friendly family atmosphere. Stop
in and see us so we can help improve your quality
of life. We look forward to seeing you
soon. Dr.

Condition Of The
Month:
OSTEOPOROSIS
Osteoporosis is a debilitating disease
that can be prevented and treated. Osteoporosis occurs
when the body fails to form enough new bone, or when too
much old bone is reabsorbed by the body, or both.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become
fragile and more likely to break. If not prevented or if
left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly
until a bone breaks. There are currently an estimated 10
million Americans suffering from osteoporosis, as well
as another 18 million who have low bone mass, or
osteopenia. While women are four times more likely than
men to develop the disease, men also suffer from
osteoporosis. Calcium and phosphate are two minerals
that are essential for normal bone formation.
As people age, calcium and phosphate
may be reabsorbed back into the body from the bones,
which makes the bone tissue weaker. This situation
can result in brittle, fragile bones that are subject to
fractures, even in the absence of trauma. Researchers
estimate that about 20% of American women over the age
of 50 have osteoporosis. In addition, another 30% of
them have osteopenia, which is abnormally low bone
density that may eventually deteriorate into
osteoporosis, if not treated. About half of all women
over the age of 50 will suffer a fracture of the hip,
wrist, or vertebra due osteoporosis.
Steps to avoid Osteoporosis
Eat a
balanced nutritional diet and supplement your diet with
a multivitamins/minerals.
Exercise
daily doing aerobic activity and strengthening
exercises.
Avoid
smoking, alcohol and soda consumption.

The practice treats to strengthen your physical body,

You will find the aim in oriental medicine is not
limited to ridding or relieving symptoms. The larger
picture is to increase both the quality of your life and
your ability to

NUTRITION:

Good Fats and
Bad Fats
The fact is we all need fats. Fats
help with nutrient absorption, nerve transmission and
maintaining cell membrane integrity are just a few
examples. However, when consumed in excess amount, fats
contribute to weight gain, heart disease and certain
types of cancer. Fats are not created equal. Some fats
promote our health positively while other increases our
risks of heart disease. The key is to replace bad fats
with good fats in our diet.
The Good
Fats Monosaturated fats lower total
cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol)
while increasing HDL (the good cholesterol). Nuts
including peanuts, walnuts, almonds and pistachios,
avocados, canola and olive oil are high in monosaturated
fats. Polyunsaturated fats also lower total
cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Seafood like salmon and
fish oil as well as corn, soy, safflower, flaxseed and
sunflower oils are high in polyunsaturated fats. Omega 3
fatty acids belong to this group.
The Bad
Fats Saturated fats raise total blood
cholesterol as well as LDL (bad cholesterol). Saturated
fats are mainly found in animal products such as meat,
dairy, eggs and seafood. Some plant foods are also high
in saturated fats such as coconut oil, palm oil and palm
kernel oil. Tran's fats were invented as scientists
began to "hydrogenate" liquid oils so that they can
withstand better in food production process and provide
a better shelve life. As a result of hydrogenation,
trans fatty acids are formed. Tran's fatty acids are
found in many commercially packaged foods, commercially
fried foods such as french fries, microwave popcorn as
well as vegetable shortening and hard stick
margarine.

RELAXATION
TIPS
Relaxation technique to help with
sleep
Deep Breathing: By concentrating on our
breathing, deep breathing allows the rest of our body to
relax itself. Deep breathing is a great way to relax the
body and get everything into synchrony. Relaxation
breathing is an important part of yoga and martial arts
for this reason.
1. Lie on your back. Slowly relax your body.
You can use the progressive relaxation technique we
described above.
2. Begin to inhale slowly through your nose if
possible. Fill the lower part of your chest first, then
the middle and top part of your chest and lungs. Be sure
to do this slowly, over 8-10 seconds.
3. Hold your breath for a second or two.
4. Then quietly and easily relax and let the
air out.
5. Wait a few seconds and repeat this
cycle.
6. If you find yourself getting dizzy, then you
are overdoing it. Slow down.
7. You can also imagine yourself in a peaceful
situation such as on a warm, gentle ocean. Imagine that
you rise on the gentle swells of the water as you inhale
and sink down into the waves as you exhale.
8. You can continue this breathing technique
for as long as you like until you fall asleep.

Laura has been in the mortgage
business for the last 11 years and has seen our market's
ups and downs. It is important, especially now, to have
a contact you can trust and to be able to give truthful
information on refinancing and purchasing. There are
many companies doing loan modifications that charge
up-front fees and may not be able to help you. Your best
bet is to call your servicer or the Hope Division. The

"I have been going to Lechner
Chiropractic for a little more than a year now and I
can't say enough about Dr. Lechner and his staff. Every
time I arrive I am greeted by name and with a smile. It
is refreshing to walk into a business and be treated
like a person instead of just another number. I deal
with a great amount of stress as a Loan Consultant. With
regular visits and a stretching program I am back on
track and pain free for the first time in years. I have
been to other Chiropractors in the past and it seemed
all they were worried about was making money, not trying
to fix the problem. I recommend everyone I know who is
in need of a Chiropractor because I know they will get
the same treatment that I receive each and every time I
walk through the
door."
